Trails Tile Collection draws inspiration from vivid memories of expansive vistas on the western side of the United States and the majestic mountain formations of Colombia. It places a strong emphasis on capturing the dynamic motion and fluidity of water trails as they weave through the ever-changing landscapes.

The goal is to craft a composition that not only resonates with the lively essence of nature but also encapsulates the perpetual movement inherent in these environments
Trails captures the essence of landscapes in a tile collection. Using the expertise of years of excellent craftsmanship and the design experimentation process to bring a wide selection of earth tones and textures that mirror the fluidity found in the natural world. With organic shapes representing rivers, islands, mountains, and volcanoes, the same tile can be rearranged to create different patterns- transforming walls into a variety of captivating sceneries. By seamlessly bringing the diverse and abundant shapes of nature in indoor spaces, and harmoniously merging with the fluidity of the elements when they are placed in outside settings.
DESIGN PROCESS
Guided by the material

The creation of the tile collection was profoundly inspired by the materials themselves. Nina emphasized the importance of learning from what the samples revealed during the process.

"Without a specific concept at the beginning, we knew we wanted to create a tile collection that embodied movement, dynamism, and organic patterns. We began experimenting with different glazes, exploring various application techniques, and striving to enhance the textures that emerged. This approach allowed the materials to guide our creative journey, resulting in a collection that is both innovative and represent the natural qualities of different landscapes in the tiles"
- Nina Nino

Behind the concept of Trails

The initial designs of the tiles were inspired by the textures found in some wood tile samples previously created by Nina. Wood naturally possesses lines, textures, patterns, and colors, whereas in ceramics, these elements must be intentionally crafted. We aimed to recreate the relief and shapes found in wood within the ceramic medium. As we observed how the ceramic pieces connected, forming paths and islands, the concept of "Trails" emerged. We then modified the design to create clearer paths, drawing inspiration from land and water trails. This evolution in design allowed us to capture the organic flow and natural beauty found in the original wood samples, translating them into a unique and dynamic tile collection.

Giving options in a simple way

Since the beginning of this project, our goal was to create something new and different from the usual tile designs. Based on the concept of organic fluidity in this collection, it didn't make sense for us to create a static pattern with just one combination. Instead, we designed a tile that can be arranged in various ways to form different patterns, or as we like to call them, "landscapes." This approach allows for a dynamic and versatile aesthetic, enabling each installation to be unique and reflective of the natural, ever-changing beauty that inspired us.

"We wanted to give options to interior designers and architects to play and create their own compositions. They are not just installing tile on a wall, they are making an art piece."

MANUFACTURE PROCESS
The manufacturing process of the Trails Tile Collection involves a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques to create unique, high-quality tiles. Here's an overview of the process:

Creating the Tiles by Hand
The process begins with handcrafting each tile. Modern methods are integrated to ensure precision and efficiency while maintaining the artisanal quality.

Making the Glazes from Scratch
The glazes are made from scratch, involving the meticulous mixing of various chemicals and raw materials. Each glaze recipe is developed to achieve specific colors, textures, and finishes. The ingredients are measured and mixed to create the desired effects.

Spraying the Tiles
The application of the glaze is done using spray techniques. This process is controlled meticulously, with attention to the number of layers applied and the speed of application. Different methods are used to achieve variations in the final texture and appearance of the tiles.

Firing at High Temperatures
Once the tiles are glazed, they are fired in kilns at high temperatures. This step is crucial as it solidifies the glaze and strengthens the tile body. The high temperatures also contribute to the unique variations in texture and color, ensuring that each tile is one-of-a-kind.

Quality and Durability
The finished tiles are robust and durable, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. The high-quality materials and firing process ensure that the tiles can withstand extreme weather conditions, including the highly variable climate of Colorado.

This meticulous process results in a collection of tiles that are not only visually stunning but also versatile and resilient, perfect for enhancing any space with their unique beauty and enduring quality.
